The ruling ZANU PF party has begun preparations for by elections scheduled for 26 March this year and has called upon all aspiring candidates to submit their CVs to their provinces before Friday this week.
Briefing the media yesterday, National Political Commissar, Cde Mike Bimha said ZANU PF had resolved to participate in the forthcoming by elections and had already crafted a roadmap that would guide party activities ahead of the by-elections.
“ZANU PF wishes to advise all its party members that the party is going to participate in the upcoming by-elections scheduled to take place on 26 March 2022. In this regard, the party has crafted a roadmap indicating activities that it must implement before and after the nomination date set for 26 January 2022.
“As practice, the Party goes through a process of selecting its candidates for any election. In view of this, all party members interested in contesting for either the vacant National Assembly or Local Authority seats, are invited to submit CVs to their respective provinces from today,12 January 2022 up to January 2022, 1600 hours,” said Cde Bimha.
Cde Bimha added that all CVs should be submitted to the Commissariat Department at the Party’s headquarters on Saturday 15 January 2022. He added that names of successful candidates will be announced on 18 January 2022.
According to Cde Bimha, only approved candidates shall contest in the party primary elections scheduled for 20 January 2022. He further said that the Commissariat Department would convene a preparatory meeting on 14 January 2022 and the meeting will be attended by all Provincial Chairpersons.
The National Political Commissar further informed that the Party was taking the by-elections seriously and was planning for nothing less than total victory in both the National Assembly and Local Authority elections.
Last week, President Mnangagwa proclaimed March 26 as the day for holding by-elections to fill vacant Parliament and council seats. More than 133 seats in parliament and local authorities have been vacant due to death as well as the recall of MDC Alliance members following a Supreme Court verdict saying Nelson Chamisa illegally assumed the leadership of the opposition party.
