As ZANU PF is angling to garner more than five million votes in the coming 2023 elections, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged Party structures to embrace and heartily welcome opposition members, who were defecting to the ruling Party and desist from the habit of victimising them.
Speaking over the weekend during the memorial service of the late Major General Paradzai Zimondi at Chidodo Primary School in Mashonaland East Province, President Mnangagwa urged Party leaders to continue to orientate new members so that they acquaint themselves with the Party’s constitution and ideology.
“Kana vakange varasika vaenda kune zvimwe zvimisangano zviya izvi vachidzoka vatambirei.Asi kana mavatambira votamba tune ye ZANU PF kwete inside out. You should teach them the ZANU PF constitution, its ideology, the rules and the procedure of the Party,” said President Mnangagwa.
The President added that every member should join the Party starting from the Cell structures and said that senior positions should be occupied by seasoned and ideologically mature members.
“In ZANU PF, musangano unotanga kumasero.Ndokunotanga musango.Ukaona wokwira woenda kuBranch, woenda ku District, woenda ku Province unenge waibva. Haungobvi kwaunobva uko wouya uchibaya kunopinda ku province.Unofana kuti upinde negwara remusangano vanhu vachiona kushanda kwako,” said the President.
President Mnangagwa said that ZANU PF was ready to bury the opposition in the next plebiscite and urged members to continue mobilising for the Party. He exhorted members to respect each other and solve differences amicably.
“We need to respect each other. We need to resolve our differences peacefully. We need to obey the rules and regulations of our Party. We need to be counted among patriots,” added the President.
This year, a number of opposition members defected to ZANU PF citing lack of political direction from the opposition parties. At the same time, ZANU PF has continued to mobilise and restructure. Up to now, the Party has registered over four million members as it moves towards its target of five million votes in the 2023 polls.
