Zimbabwe was yesterday plunged into mourning following the death of ZANU PF’s Secretary for Information and Publicity, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, who died at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo.

Soon after the announcement of his death, condolences started pouring in from all corners of the country, with many describing him as a dedicated cadre who served his nation diligently.

Writing on his Twitter handle yesterday, ZANU PF Secretary for Administration, Cde Obert Mpofu, described Cde Moyo as a timeless diplomat.

“Of all ZAPU cadres up there, I know George Silundika is the happiest of them all now. Umdala (Joshua Nkomo) is also happy to be reunited with his Personal Assistant. Happy ride to the celestial Propaganda Stallion. Fly high timeless diplomat,” tweeted Cde Mpofu.

Self-exiled former ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere, tweeted that, “Chairman SK, dear brother and senior colleague, you have rested. Sleep well Moyondizvo. Condolences to Mai Moyo and family”.

Former Cabinet Minister Jonathan Moyo described Cde Moyo as a decent man and a true son of the soil.

“Sad about SK Moyo’s death. A true son of the soil and a decent man. Profoundly heartfelt condolences to his family,” tweeted Moyo.

Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume tweeted that he was saddened by the death of Cde Moyo, while Labour Economists and African Democrats (LEAD) president Linda Masarira said Cde Moyo was an example of decency and consistency.

Cde Moyo joined the liberation struggle in 1968 as a member of ZAPU. During the liberation struggle, he was Special Assistant to the late Vice President Joshua Nkomo and was a member of the PF ZAPU Central Committee.

After independence, Cde Moyo held several positions in Government including Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce in 1992, Minister of Mines, Environment and Tourism (1997-2000) and Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services. The Party is expected to issue an official statement soon.
