The MDC Alliance deputy chairperson, Job Sikhala has allegedly written to that party’s president, Nelson Chamisa, lambasting him for not aggressively acting against ZANU PF.
An impeccable source within the MDC Alliance said Sikhala laid bare his frustrations to Chamisa and complained that the youthful leader was not doing much to inspire the MDC Alliance supporters.
“The vice chairperson Sikhala wrote a letter to the President (Chamisa) complaining that he had become lukewarm and was not aggressively acting against ZANU PF. Sikhala told Chamisa that the MDC Alliance needs an aggressive and action-oriented leader who could inspire multitudes of the party’s supporters. The vice chairperson also complained that the MDC Alliance is losing ground and lambasted Chamisa for failing to initiate demonstrations against ZANU PF,” said the source.
According to the source, the furious Sikhala further complained that Chamisa’s political actions were being dwarfed by that of activist Hopewell Chin’ono and leader of Transform Zimbabwe, Jacob Ngarivhume, whom he said were more visible on the ground than him.
“Sikhala told Chamisa that he was slowly losing political relevance as the MDC Alliance members were now looking up to Chin’ono and Ngarivhume for inspiration. He also wrote that Chamisa should take a leaf from Chin’ono and Ngarivhume on how to confront the ruling party and Government instead of complaining without taking a decisive action. Sikhala said it was very risky to approach 2023 elections with a leader who was not decisive on the political trajectory the party should take,” added the source.
Relations between Sikhala and Chamisa are frosty as the latter views Sikhala as a threat to his continued grip on the MDC Alliance leadership. Sikhala also believes that it was Chamisa who exposed to the police his hideout at Sarah Mahoka’s house in Tyward, Harare leading to his arrest in August 2020.
Efforts to get a comment from the MDC Alliance national spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere, were fruitless as her cellphone was not reachable.
