The MDC-Alliance youths in Bulawayo have described their party leadership as “useless” and composed of people who want to be worshipped instead of serving the interests of the party.
A leaked WhatsApp conversation of Bulawayo youths showed that cracks have emerged within the opposition party as youths took turns to castigate their leaders, particularly that party’s Secretary General Charlton Hwende.
“Our leadership is useless, especially the SG Hwende. It’s sad that Hwende is still using old tactics of labeling people who have different opinions with him as ZANU PF, CIOs or G40. People like Hwende have destroyed the party by misleading the president (Nelson Chamisa),” fumed Josphat Mzaca, MDC-Alliance Bulawayo youth executive member.
Mzaca further labeled Hwende as the worst Secretary General and urged him to resign immediately.
“Hwende is the worst SG to ever come from the party. He has destroyed the party and he should either resign or start behaving appropriately. I still look forward to the day we will have leaders who reason well and have conscience,” added Mzaca.
Mzaca also said the alleged Hwende’s illicit affair with reinstated Bulawayo Chair lady Tendai Masotsha, is destroying that party as he used his influence to have Masotsha exonerated from all the charges she was facing.
Masotsha was being investigated for the role she allegedly played on the suspected abduction of Tawanda Muchehiwa in July this year.
“We know that Masotsha is Hwende’s girlfriend, but that love affair is not good as it will destroy the party,” added Mzaca.
Another Bulawayo provincial member, Takunda Madzana said that the problem in the MDC-Alliance was that there “are people who have become big-headed after being elected into some key positions and they now think that they are bigger than the party.”
Bulawayo youth chair, Tinashe Kambarami also said the MDC-Alliance had been destroyed by “selfish and useless leaders who are sacrificing the party for personal gains.”
The Bulawayo youths also blamed their party leaders for disrespecting the Ndebele people as they don’t consult them when making decisions.
“People of Bulawayo should stand up and say no to this nonsense. We are tired of being used by these Harare people,” said one youth in the WhatApp group.
The MDC-Alliance is currently divided along regional lines as members in Bulawayo and Matabeleland regions are reportedly not happy with the structure of their party, where top positions are occupied by Shona speaking people.
