President Emmerson Mnangagwa today presided over Harare Institute of Technology’s (HIT) 11th graduation ceremony in Harare, which was partly held as a virtual graduation due to COVID-19 regulations.
On its twitter handle the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services said, “His Excellency President Mnangagwa is today presiding over the Harare Institute of Technology’s 11th graduation ceremony, before officially opening an innovation hub at the Institute. This year’s graduation is virtual in compliance with COVID-19 regulations.
The Ministry of Information also said the 2020 HIT graduation undertook various projects that are beneficial to the nation such as the national fuel smart card and the tap card payment system for urban transport.
“HIT Graduation 2020 has undertaken various projects beneficial to the nation including the tap card payment system for urban transport, national fuel smartcard, local authorities digital systems, manufacturing of biomedical equipment and production of number plates among others,” said the Ministry.
HIT was established in 1988 as a National Vocational Training Centre (NVTC). Overtime, it evolved into a Technical College offering courses in automotive, electrical, and mechanical engineering, producing artisans capable of operating and maintaining machinery in industry with little or no research or generation of new technology related knowledge.
HIT conducts research, design, manufacture, develop, incubate, transfer, and commercialise technology for all sectors of the economy. Harare Institute of Technology produces highly qualified technical human capital that is creativity driven, project oriented, understand all stages of invention including idea generation and development and have the ability, stamina and courage to set up high-tech enterprises, the Harare Post has learnt.
