President Emmerson Mnangagwa called on the nation to look up to God and harness prayers towards an end to the COVID-19 pandemic, during the Presidential National Day of Prayer and Fasting.

Addressing delegates gathered at State House this Monday, the President reiterated the need to seek divine intervention in the fight against Covid-19.

“In Zimbabwe we have chosen to humble ourselves before God and acknowledge him. We have chosen to repent and seek divine help and ask for his mercy in healing and restoration of health in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

The President emphasized the need to continue abiding by the set COVID-19 regulations while at the same time resorting to prayer and fasting to conquer the pandemic.

“As a nation we come before the almighty God to seek his mercy, wisdom, help, and healing to overcome this deadly pandemic. In doing so we however diligently continue to observe every precaution necessary to prevent the spread of Coronavirus,” he added.

Different denomination leaders were present to include Christians, Muslims society, Hindu society and the Greek society, as they took centre stage reiterating the President’s call and thanked him for seeking divine help and accepting that there was a greater leader than him.

The Presidential call for the National Day of Prayer is said to have been inspired by the holy scriptures, 2 Chronicles Chapter 7 verse 13 -15 which reads; “If I send pestilence among my people and my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes shall be open, and my ears attend to the prayer that is made in this place.”
