President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said that the Zupco buses serve every commuter, regardless of political disposition.

He said this, whilst addressing delegates at the Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT)today, during the commissioning of ZUPCO buses for national commuter service.

President Mnangagwa said the parastatal’s buses serve every commuter, regardless of political disposition. He added that the Government enforced social distance on buses to ensure continued adherence to COVID19 preventive measures, by limiting the number of passengers per load, disinfection of buses after each trip, wearing of masks and temperature screening, to ensure safe travel for commuters.

President Mnangagwa further highlighted that the downgrade of lockdown measures is commensurate with a growing understanding of the pandemic and ways of controlling it, a situation related to an increase in coping mechanisms and capacity within the country in case of an upsurge.

Speaking at the same occasion President Mnangagwa addressed the issue of returnees from foreign countries who are escaping quarantine centres by calling for community policing, in order to flush out returnees who my sneak back into the country and into communities, putting everyone’s life at risk.

The commissioning comes as Government continues to boost the fleet of its national road carrier ZUPCO,in order to cope with the demand.  This is in line with the People's Manifesto of 2018 where the ruling Party promised to restore sanity in the public transport sector.
