Zanu PF has castigated neo-colonialism as impeding the efforts by developing countries to deliver socio-economic development.
Zanu PF said this at the 10th meeting of Secretary Generals and Wings of Former Liberation Movements (FLM) being held at Victoria Falls. The meeting is running under the theme, “Uniting Former Liberation Movements against Neo-Colonialism through Total Economic Cooperation, Development and Independence.”
Zanu PF Director of Administration, Dixon Dzora in a statement at the meeting said neo-colonialism was a burden which continues to hinder socio-economic development.
“Our shared burden of neo-colonialism has continued to blight our efforts towards delivering socio-economic development and unity for our people.
“Consequently this meeting comes at a time when regime change efforts have assumed an asymmetrical dimension in our respective countries through the use of cyber space, Non-Governmental Organizations and Sanctions,” he said.
Dzora added that, His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa remains committed to playing his part in maintaining regional peace and stability and to develop Zimbabwe despite these challenges.
In his statement Dzora commended on the spirit of brotherhood displayed by members of the Southern Africa Development Committee (SADC) in declaring, 25 October, as a day of advocating for the removal of sanctions.
“We remain forever grateful to the resolution by SADC on declaring, 25 October, as a day the region unites and calls out for removal of sanctions on Zimbabwe.
“Such spirit of brotherhood may it not only be witnessed in Zimbabwe but on the whole region and beyond,” said Dzora.
Dzora also thanked the region for the unity demonstrated during the catastrophic Cyclone Idai which led to the destruction of human life and property.
“Although neo-colonialism continues to be an existential threat to our values and norms, climate change has posed as a threat to our people and country. Zimbabwe and its neighbours had the ignominy of managing the catastrophic Cyclone Idai which led to the destruction of human life and property.
“We however, commend the region in timeously rendering various forms of support to our affected families. The spirit of Ubuntu and brotherhood should continue defining our fraternal ties and deepen our cooperation for the purposes of peace and development in the region,” he said.
