Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veteran Association (ZNLWVA) Spokesperson, Douglas Mahiya has encouraged War Veterans to take a leading role in the revival of the economy which he said was destroyed by the old dispensation.
Addressing War Veterans gathered at Emaplankeni in Bulawayo today, Mahiya implored the war veterans to work selflessly for the success of Zanu PF highlighting that war veterans are the stockholders of Zanu PF.
“The direction is to defend the party and what we fought for. The economy was destroyed by the old regime. We are suffering because of the old Zanu PF. The old Zanu PF destroyed the country and this new Zanu PF found nothing. It is only left with political power.
“War vets should lead the economic war, that’s why I am here. Others have nothing to do with the success of Zanu PF. War vets are stockholders of Zanu PF not stakeholders of Zanu PF,” said Mahiya.
Mahiya told the war veterans that they should participate in the national economic development of the country because they are the ones who understand the cause of going to war.
He mentioned that there is no one who can speak louder and better for peace than the war veterans who are the founders of peace.
“I am here to encourage and give direction to war vets. No one can speak louder and better for peace than war vets who are the founders of peace,” he said.
The Government has always treasured the efforts of war veterans in working for the success of Zimbabwe. It has recently allocated war veterans 15 000 hectares of farmland in the country’s eight agricultural provinces following complaints that the liberation war fighters were excluded from the Land Reform Programme. The move was part of President Mnangagwa`s unwavering support for the liberation war veterans across the country.
