Tanzania has commended President Emmerson Mnangagwa`s leadership and his efforts to revive the Zimbabwean economy by fighting corruption and promoting national political dialogue.

Speaking to delegates yesterday at the 8th session of the Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC) between the Republic of Tanzania and Zimbabwe, Tanzanian minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Professor Palamagamba Kabudi said, “On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Tanzania, I wish to congratulate His Excellency Emmerson Mnangagwa, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe for his leadership and his efforts to revive the economy of Zimbabwe.

“We take note of several ventures he has taken in strengthening good governance such as the fight against corruption which resembles the efforts of His Excellency Dr John Joseph Magufuli on zero tolerance to corruption,” he said.

Minister Kabudi highlighted that as a long-time friend to Zimbabwe, Tanzania is satisfied with all the initiatives undertaken. He said the national political dialogue was quiet pertinent and that President Mnangagwa deserved special mention in that regard.

He further encouraged his counterpart, minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Sibusiso Moyo to continue with the efforts of re-building Zimbabwe just like their two Heads of States, highlighting that Tanzania is also on the path to become a middle income country.

“We all know the vision of our Heads of State and their quest to develop our countries. On our part, we are on the path to industrialise and move Tanzania to a middle income country by 2025. In doing so, President Magufuli had made it clear that during his time of tenure, he would have zero tolerance to corruption, embezzlement, laxity in government affairs and bureaucracy.

“He has made it clear of his conviction to create a conducive environment for business trade and investment. As a result, we are implementing among others, the blueprint for reforms to improve business environment in Tanzania,’’ he said.

Minister Kabudi further highlighted that President Magufuli was aware that all his visions could not be achieved if he did not cooperate and partner with other countries in various areas and if we did not encourage our citizens to cross borders and do business with the rest of the world more specifically with the region,” he said.

Minister Kabudi`s remarks is clear testimony that President Mnangagwa is on the right track in trying to create an environment conducive for investment, with engagement and re-engagement efforts with the local, regional and international community and the fight against corruption.
