Chamisa under siege

MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa is under siege from that party’s structures which are accusing him of being self-centered and exhibiting dictatorial tendencies.

MDC Kadoma District Assembly becomes the latest structure of the MDC to register their disgruntlement amid mobilization of people to sign a petition challenging that party’s recent Provincial and National Congresses.

Former MDC Member of Parliament for Kadoma Central, Editor Matamisa, is behind the crusade to topple Chamisa advocating that the congresses were unconstitutional.

An MDC Midlands Executive member confided to this publication that Matamisa’s cause has a huge buy-in from the majority of MDC party members in Kadoma District.

The source added that in his quest, Matamisa has the backing of Midlands North Provincial Secretary, David Samapenda, who first took the MDC to court over the legality of the Congresses and was to later endure humiliation after youths were set on him and was left for dead over same. According to the source, “this time around, Matamisa and Samapenda have teamed up with Virimai Chemuvhumo, Tererai Mutare, Mbekezeli Ndlovu and Abraham Mwadzwa.”

It also emerged that the renegades have the backing of MDC Vice President, Tendai Biti, and are accusing Chamisa of being self-centered by keeping the nation in election mode ahead of proffering solutions to the country and that party’s problems. Matamisa and crew are arguing that Chamisa’s ‘stolen election’ mantra is fast becoming tired and not working as proven by the time that has lapsed since its conception.

Chamisa is also accused of dilly dallying as far as making practical steps towards confronting Government over a number of alleged unaddressed affairs. The source revealed that “the general consensus from this group is that Chamisa has been reluctant and lenient towards Government. They say since the time he was given US$2.5m by former President, Robert Mugabe, he has not been forthcoming and has been ignoring the calls by the people to take to the streets.”

In Masvingo, MDC Provincial Chairperson, James Gumbi, created a WhatsApp group named ‘MDC 2019’ and the forum has of late been a firing point from which dissatisfaction over the conduct of Chamisa are being aired. In one of the leaked chats, MDC members are featured questioning the appointment of Morgen Komichi as Head of Presidential Affairs despite losing at the Congress.

Chamisa is struggling to balance the pressure from his western handlers and the Biti faction which is advocating for the confrontation of Government. Team Biti has been moving to solidify their stunt (confrontation) as evidenced by the activities of the ‘motor mouth’, Job Sikhala, who despite facing charges of treason is going on addressing that party’s rallies despite censure from Government.
