Former ZANU PF legislator for Epworth constituency, Zalerah Makari who was barred by the Party from contesting in primary elections in that constituency because of her shenanigans, decided to contest as an independent candidate.
Speaking after filing her papers at the Rotten Row Magistrates Court yesterday, she said: “The electorate in Epworth asked me to stand as an independent candidate”.
In an unrepentant tone, the outgoing legislator boasted about her seemingly achievements during her tenure. “I was responsible for the road repairs in the constituency,” said Makari.
After realising that MDC-T led councils in urban areas, especially Harare was failing to repair roads, Government took over the duty under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP). It was under this programme that the roads in Epworth were repaired. Makari selfishly claims to be responsible for that yet it was a wholly funded Government initiative across the city.
Makari was elected as ZANU PF legislator for Epworth in 2015 following the death of the then incumbent legislator the late, Amos Midzi. She was barred from contesting in Party primary elections due to her fraternising with the divisive G40 faction and refusing to tow the Party line. ZANU PF’s candidate for the constituency will now be Kudakwashe Damson.
