The Zimbabwe National Road Authority (Zinara) Board will next week embark on a weeklong tour in the Cyclone Idai hit areas assessing the decimation of infrastructure and the response done by their parastatal, the Harare Post can report.
Zinara which is marred by corrupt activities which happened during its infancy has taken a step further to make sure that they plug all possible leakages.
The Board which is being led by Engineer Michael Madanha said that they intend to make sure that they remain hands on all the projects being supervised by their company as well as plugging all possible gaps that can be manipulated for any corrupt activity.
A source at Zinara told the Harare Post that next week, the Board will have an appreciation tour of Manicaland and Masvingo Provinces assessing the projects which were undertook by their company in restoring normalcy to the Cyclone Idai hit areas.
“Next week, the Board led by its chairman Eng Madanha will visit the two Provinces visiting all areas which were decimated by the Cyclone. Their major thrust is visiting all the ongoing projects being undertaken or supervised by Zinara.
“It is prudent that the Board acquaint themselves on what is transpiring on ground and knowing where all the money disbursed going and is it being put to good use,” said the source who asked to remain anonymous.
The new Zinara Board is faced with an uphill task based on the rot exposed by Grant and Thorntorn and therefore, unlike the previous Boards; they have decided to be involved in monitoring projects being funded by Zinara.
Eng Madanha said that the new Board is determined to fight corruption at Zinara in line with the aspirations of achieving targets of Vision 2030 as set by President Mnangagwa.
“We are fighting the corruption at Zinara tooth and nail and we are not going to leave any stone unturned in this regard. We have a clear mandate from our Minister (Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Joel Biggie Matiza), who is determined to see all those who looted Zinara funds behind bars. We are using our internal systems to uproot the corruption at Zinara,” he said.
