President Emmerson Mnangagwa today told the Cyclone Idai victims in Chimanimani that Government will assist them by building houses and try to find out how to avoid such disasters again in the future.
Speaking to Cyclone Idai victims, President Mnangagwa said destroyed houses were going to be rebuilt.
“Government will start by rebuilding houses for those whose houses were destroyed by the Cyclone. Government will then move to inspect other houses to see if they are conducive to live in, in case of any other natural disaster, so that lives and infrastructure will not be lost again,” said the President.
President Mnangagwa also said in some areas earth tremors made some houses to fall apart before the rains had started.
“In some areas the earth tremor made some houses fall apart even before the rains had started, Government will appoint engineers to look into see what had caused the earth tremor and prepare or rectify the problems,” said the President.
President Mnangagwa encouraged the cyclone victims to identify missing people and give their names to their local leadership.
“Vose vane nhamo dzavanadzo musanyarara, kune mastructures arimo, munotaura mugonyorwa pasi. Kana mune hama yamusingaoni kuti yakaenda kupi inyoresei. Ndiko kuti tizive kuti vakarasika vatisati tawana vangani. Tokwanisa kungozviziva izvozvo zvichibva kwamuri, isu hatingakwanisi kuziva izvozvo. Saka motibatsira tishande pamwechete,” (All those with problems should not hesitate to tell your local leaders. If you have missing relatives give their names to the leaders so that we know how many people are missing. We can only know that from you and if we work together. Let us help each other), he said.
President Mnangagwa said that they (the leadership) were human and as such were bound to make mistakes, he therefore called for the locals to correct them whenever they go wrong.
“Patinenge tichikanganisa musanyarare tiri vanhu, motaura kuti izvi hazvisi kufamba zvakanaka. Tichaita zvese zvatinogona tichiunza zvichemo zvamunenge munazvo tichigadzira.” (When we go wrong do not keep quiet you should speak out. We will do all we can in trying to look into your queries.)
President Mnangagwa also announced that aid was on its way and that Government of Zimbabwe would be going to Mozambique to repatriate bodies of Zimbabweans who had been washed away by the heavy flows of water.
President Mnangagwa has shown that he is with the victims at heart and his promise to assist will surely go a long way knowing that he is a listening President.
