The United States has in recent days come under fire from Zimbabweans over the continued imposition of illegal sanctions on the country.  

Zimbabweans have taken to micro blogging site, Twitter to vent their anger, accusing the US of intimidation, cruelty and hypocrisy.

The US Embassy in Harare on Wednesday further stoked Zimbabweans anger after tweeting, “The U.S. Embassy has an Ambassador’s Self-Help program. It provides targeted grants to assist small-scale, short-term, community-driven development projects that improve economic & social conditions at the local level. For more information, visit: http://ow.ly/cjrg50n41WM” 

Irate Zimbabweans immediately bashed the Embassy for its condescending “Messiah” attitude towards them and Africans as a whole.

Daniel Moses Tendi responded “We are not disabled. We can use our hands, just REMOVE sanctions.”

@vitex__dallas weighed in, “Are you normal--"THE KILLER BUYING THE COFFIN APPROACH” will never be tolerated until you remove the sanctions.”

@trusttafa also tweeted “When you’re sincere about helping us, just remove the sanctions! It’s pointless to put a nation under severe sanctions then give grants to the same country...? Why are you sanctioning us when you really want us to prosper? Stop playing TWO FACE GAMES !”

There has been an increase in calls for the removal of sanctions in Zimbabwe in the wake of reforms undertaken by President Mnangagwa’s Government, with citizens highlighting that it is high time the US admits that its sanctions are hurting citizens and not the so-called targeted entities.

An anti-sanctions march is being organised in Zimbabwe on a date yet to be advised.
