President Emmerson Mnangagwa today officiated at Zimbabwe Open University’s (ZOU’s) 16th Graduation ceremony, where he was installed as the Chancellor of the University.
Addressing thousands of Graduands at the City Sports Stadium in Harare, President Mnangagwa said he was humbled to be installed as the second Chancellor of the University.
Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Professor Amon Murwira congratulated the President on his installation and declared full support to the President for Vision 2030.
President Mnangagwa highlighted that his administration is working on improving the education sector and promised to improve the university and economy.
“My administration is radically redefining the education sector and various spheres of the economy. I pledge to improve the university in line with the global best practices,” he said.
President Mnangagwa called upon the University to adjust its organisational structure so as to fit to Government’s present focus of Vision 2030 and to expand further away from the traditional fields of study.
He said Government is committed to support distance learning and to provide infrastructure.
“Government is committed to support distance learning and provision of modern infrastructure and accessories,” he said.
President Mnangagwa realises the importance of education and that the young generation are the future leaders of tomorrow.
