The country’s economy is on the rebound following successes in agriculture, mining and manufacturing sectors that have continued to perform well despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was said yesterday by President Mnangagwa while addressing the 353rd Ordinary Session of the ZANU PF Politburo at the Party headquarters in Harare.
“It is noteworthy that the modernization of both the Party and Government has resulted in unprecedented economic successes. These are riding on the rebound of our agriculture, mining and manufacturing sectors, The tourism sector has equally seen increased investments while many airlines are indicating an interest to fly into Zimbabwe,” said the President.
President Mnangagwa added that the rebound of the country’s economy has been acknowledged and received good reviews from IMF and World Bank. He castigated lone voices and perennially pessimistic individuals who always wish gloom and doom for the country. He urged people to ignore those who speak evil of the country as the success of the New Dispensation would be visible for everyone to see.
The President implored the party to actively participate in the devolution programmes as they have far reaching impact on the quality of people’s lives. He urged the party to use available media platforms and party structures to publicise party successes and ongoing projects at the grassroots levels.
On the restructuring of the party’s youth and women wings set for September this year, the President said that party rules and regulations must be observed to the letter, especially with regards to the age limit for the Youth League. He further said that all party members should always promote unity, peace and development of both the party and Government as this was the mark of committed and loyal cadres.
The President also gave a hint that the party’s National People’s Conference scheduled for October this year in Mashonaland Central Province, might be held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
On the COVID-19 pandemic, the President said more vaccines have been procured and are on their way to the country. He urged people to continue observing all health protocols such as wearing of face masks, sanitizing, maintaining social distance and avoiding unnecessary movements. He commended the private sector and development partners for their complementary role in the fight against the pandemic.
