The country’s economy is on the rebound despite previously suffering shocks from the Covid-19 pandemic that had negatively affected production in industries.
This was said by President Mnangagwa while addressing the ZANU PF’s 352nd Politburo session yesterday at the Party’s headquarters.
“The manufacturing sector is on the rebound. In spite of the adverse effects of shocks emanating from the Covid19 pandemic, industrial capacity utilization is improving, while increased demand is impacting positively on the growth of local production and consumption of food. It is commendable that our shelves are now dominated by locally produced goods.
“My administration is on course with regards deepening economic reforms, implementing prudent policies and fighting inflation,” said President Mnangagwa.
The President further said that concerted efforts should also be directed to increase production in the ongoing winter season. He commended farmers for utilizing the agriculture support facilities like Presidential Winter Wheat Scheme and CBZ Agro yield scheme for winter wheat production.
President Mnangagwa urged communities to fully utilize water bodies to increase agricultural production.
“As we seek to consolidate the gains of the 2020/2021 agriculture season, I commissioned Muchekeranwa Dam in Mashonaland East. I thus challenge the Party structures and communities around the Dam and other dams throughout the country to ensure the full utilisation of our water infrastructure for increased agriculture production and productivity, especially in the horticulture, livestock and fisheries value chains,” added the President.
President Mnangagwa further urged Party structures such as the Provincial and District Coordinating Committee to take interest in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) statistics of their respective Provinces and accordingly mobilise sectors in their areas to work harder for the achievement of an Upper Middle Income Status by 2030.
He applauded Harare, Bulawayo and Manicaland Provinces for facilitating his tours of industries. He urged the Party’s economic secretariat and departments of the Party not to be left behind but remain engaged with other stakeholders towards encouraging increased production and productivity across all sectors of the economy.
The Head of State added that his Government is serious about infrastructure development and has accelerated the modernization of the country’s roads and ports of entry.
President Mnangagwa said the Party’s leadership should shun corruption and stated that the public goods and services are not feeding troughs, but must reach the intended communities.
