Speaking at the first Cabinet meeting of 2024, held at State House yesterday, President Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of unity and diligence in navigating obstacles and driving progress.
In his address, President Mnangagwa acknowledged the daunting landscape marked by illegal sanctions and the pressing threat of climate change.
Despite these challenges, he stressed the need for legislators to remain focused and united in their efforts to deliver meaningful results for the nation.
"Amidst the burden of illegal sanctions and the looming spectre of climate change, it is imperative that we maintain our focus and unity in fulfilling our duties with utmost diligence and integrity," President Mnangagwa asserted.
He emphasised the importance of exploring innovative solutions and alternative avenues to overcome obstacles and propel the nation forward.
The President highlighted the urgency of decisive action to enhance efficiencies within all public institutions, particularly within the healthcare sector.
With recent incidents such as the cholera outbreak underscoring the critical need for robust public health systems, President Mnangagwa called for prioritised efforts in providing clean water, sanitation facilities, and waste management services.
Furthermore, President Mnangagwa commended the collaborative response of stakeholders in addressing recent mining-related disasters.
He called upon relevant Ministers to provide comprehensive updates on these matters, reaffirming the government's commitment to addressing challenges effectively.
In line with the Government's commitment to inclusive development, President Mnangagwa directed Ministers to focus on implementing transformative programmes that promote industrialization, modernization, and rural development nationwide. These initiatives, he emphasised, should align with the policy imperatives outlined during the Government Retreat in September 2023.
President Mnangagwa further underscored the importance of ensuring that ministerial programmes remain aligned with the economic development priorities outlined in the National Development Strategy.
He called for the removal of bureaucratic hurdles and the fostering of seamless processes to incorporate stakeholder perspectives in policy formulation.
Additionally, President Mnangagwa advised Ministers to extend timely and selective invitations for his participation in high-priority events, emphasising the need for efficiency and prioritisation in engaging him for official duties.
