According to a source within that party, the agents are angry at that party leader, Nelson Chamisa, who is now infamous for not paying salaries and wages. The agents are citing previous cases of non-payment of workers and election agents within that party.
“The agents are planning to gather at the party's headquarters and stay there until they are paid. They are also threatening to disrupt the party operations if their demands are not met.
“They are aware that Chamisa received a windfall for election expenses as well as payment of agents, from the Netherlands and USAID among other donors. As such, they don’t understand why he is failing to pay them,” said the source.
A CCC senior member divulged that Chamisa diverted some of the money to his own personal use.
Chamisa was under fire from the Diaspora community for failing to account for the funds mobilized for his bullet proof car. He is also asked to account for the proceeds from the several GoFundMe initiatives. “Word has it that he converted the rest of the money to personal use and only managed to spare a few hundred thousands for the polling agents. An internal investigation was instituted after the money was further misappropriated by those meant to pay the agents,” said the source.
Political analyst, Chenai Makomba stated that the CCC's failure to pay its agents was a sign that it was going through financial difficulties. He further stated that the agents' threat to storm the party offices was justified.
“If they do go through with their plan, it could damage the party's reputation and make it more difficult to attract new members and supporters,” she said.
This is not the first time that the CCC`s organizational skills were under scrutiny by its election agents. In 2018 Harmonized General Elections, the then MDC-Alliance which is now CCC, failed to pay over 50 000 polling agents. .
