President Mnangagwa is set to officially open the 2024 Mine Entra Expo today, a key event for Zimbabwe's mining sector.
Held under the theme “Unearthing Success: The Mining Value Chains, Innovation, and Industrialisation Nexus,” this year's conference promises to highlight crucial developments and innovations that are shaping the future of the industry.
Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando confirmed that President Mnangagwa will preside over the opening ceremony today.
"The Mine Entra, which runs until Friday, will be officially opened tomorrow (today) by President Mnangagwa. For the first time, the Chamber of Mines will present a comprehensive survey of the industry, which will be shared at the Expo, “said Minister Chitando.
Minister Chitando emphasised the significance of the expo as a platform for stakeholders in the mining sector to establish meaningful connections and enhance competitiveness.
“The Mine Entra offers a unique opportunity for suppliers from around the world to showcase their equipment, products, and services, ensuring that the industry remains competitive in terms of cost and quality,” he said.
He added that the expo plays a crucial role in promoting local goods and services under the "Buy Zimbabwe" initiative, which aims to strengthen domestic production and entrepreneurship.
The expo, which commenced yesterday, has seen a significant increase in participation, with 250 exhibitors, up from 200 last year.
Notably, international exhibitors have also grown in number, with 19 companies participating, representing countries such as China, South Africa, India, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The event is anticipated to be larger and more impactful than previous editions, as businesses showcase innovative technologies and forge strategic partnerships aimed at driving industrial development and economic growth in Zimbabwe.
Yesterday, the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre was abuzz with activity as exhibitors engaged in discussions and exchanged contacts, expressing optimism that the expo will lead to substantial business opportunities.
Many companies, including first-time participants, displayed an array of machinery, engines, spare parts, and personal protective equipment (PPE), contributing to the vibrant atmosphere.
Exhibitors from both local and international markets have expressed satisfaction with the event, noting the growing opportunities in Zimbabwe's mining industry.
Companies such as South Africa's Netpun Boot, a producer of personal protective equipment, and Bureau Veritas Zimbabwe, which handles contracts in Zimbabwe and Botswana, have praised the expo for its well-organised structure and the potential it holds for future business growth.
As the event progresses, there are high hopes that this year's Mine Entra will solidify Zimbabwe's position as a critical player in the global mining value chain while fostering new innovations that will drive industrialisation and economic prosperity.
