In a significant step towards promoting industrial self-sufficiency, the Minister of Energy and Power Development, Hon. Edgar Moyo, visited the Dinson Iron and Steel Plant in Manhize.
Government spokesperson, Nick Mangwana, revealed that the visit underscored the government’s commitment to supporting local industries and ensuring sustainable energy solutions and Dinson’s proactive approach to meeting its energy demands.
“Minister of Energy and power development Hon. Edgar Moyo today toured the Dinson Iron and Steel Plant in Manhize .He was impressed by the efforts made by the company to satisfy their own energy needs,” said Mangwana
Dinson has implemented several innovative strategies, including renewable energy sources and energy-efficient technologies, which align with national goals for sustainable development.
Engineer Bret Reza of Hut Electrics, a renewable Energy company, commended efforts by Dinson to be energy self-sufficient amid electricity supply hiccups caused by El Nino-induced drought which has reduced water levels for electricity generation at Kariba South Power station.
“The energy self-sufficiency initiative by Dinson is a model which illustrates how collaboration between the private sector and government can lead to mutual benefits and a benchmark for others diverse industry players to follow suit at the time where we have reduced generation at KSHPS due to lower water levels caused by the drought.” he emphasised
The Dinson Iron and Steel Plant is a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s manufacturing sector with potential and ability to make significant investments in infrastructure and technology to enhance productivity while minimizing environmental impact, prioritizing energy self-sufficiency, the company not only reduces its operational costs but also contributes to the stability of the national grid.
Meanwhile, Dinson Iron and Steel Company US$500 million plus investment in Manhize is expected to employ thousands of Zimbabweans, both directly and indirectly and through its steel production and export operations, it will contribute to Zimbabwe’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
