Gvt’s bold economic strides in 2024

Government has made significant strides in economic development and public service enhancements, in line with the objectives of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).

 

Speaking during a post cabinet press briefing, in Harare today (yesterday), Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services,  Dr Jenfan Muswere pointed out that, developmental efforts by the Government were pivotal in propelling the country towards its goal of becoming an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.

 

According to Minister Muswere the Ministry of Skills Audit and Development has been particularly active, achieving considerable success in multiple projects.

 

“1 000 participants attended 27 Stakeholder Consultative Workshops that were held to develop a roadmap on issues covered under the Ministry’s mandate.

 

“The Terms of Reference for the evaluation of National Scholarships were developed; skills needs assessments in the Mining, Tourism and Hospitality Industries sectors were conducted, while Key findings of the National 2018 Critical Skills Audit report were unpacked during stakeholder workshops and media engagements,” said Minister Muswere.

 

Minister Muswere further highlighted the significant progress in the mining sector

“The Dinson Iron and Steel Company (DISCO)’s Carbon Steel Plant is 95% complete, the raw materials complex and the Sintering Plant are 100% complete as well as  the Blast Furnace is 90% complete, while the Steel Mill is 60% complete.

 

“The Coke Oven Battery at Dinson Colliery is 90% complete and construction of Furnace 7 at ZIMASCO High Carbon Ferrochrome Smelter is 100% complete, while Furnace 8 is at 80% of completion.

 

“Construction of the Aglomaration Plant is 60% complete and the redevelopment of the Burnett and Southwell Shafts at Pickstone Peerless Mine is at 20% of completion,” said Minister Muswere.

 

Government has shown a strong commitment to economic development and public service enhancement, aligning with the NDS 1.  Progress across various sectors reflects the Government’s proactive approach and dedication to national prosperity as well as ensuring that no sector or community is left behind.
