Economists have applauded the Government’s efforts in mobilizing thirteen gold monitoring teams across the country in an effort to boost gold production and strengthen the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency.

The Government of Zimbabwe has mobilized a team, tasked with a singular purpose to oversee every mining site across the country, to ensure all gold extracted is directed to Fidelity Gold Refinery.

Musi Masimuke an Economic analyst, said Zimbabwe's gold mines had been both a source of fortune and contention, with stories of clandestine deals, smuggling, and exploitation.

“The goal is to encourage small scale miners to formalize their operations and sell their gold through official channels, such as the Fidelity Gold Refinery (FGR).  It benefits the country that Government has embarked on a bold mission to reclaim control of its precious resources by involving small scale miners,” said Masimuke.

According to Masimuke, the Government has deployed more than a dozen teams to carry out and monitor mining sites across the country to ensure the precious mineral is sold through proper and legal channels that benefit the country.

“The Government has deployed more than a dozen teams to carry out and monitor mining sites across the country in the bid to carry out the first gold exercise in 2024, this will help in ensuring transparency and accountability in an effort to harness our abundant resources for the benefit of our nation,”

In addition, Stanley Ndete on his X handle said the Government aims to fully benefit from its resources.

"These measures are about ensuring that every ounce of gold extracted enriches our nation and empowers our people. By directing our resources towards national development, we're not just safeguarding our wealth we're investing in the future of Zimbabwe, ensuring that our prosperity is shared by all," said Ndete.
