Government has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector by enhancing the development of modern affordable workspaces.
Speaking yesterday during the commissioning of Gwanda Vending Markets, the Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, said the initiative aligns with the nation's Vision 2030, aiming to elevate Zimbabwe to a middle-income economy.
Minister Mutsvangwa said that the newly commissioned Gwanda Vending Markets will empower local entrepreneurs and stimulate economic activity in the district.
“Government will continue to pursue the development of workspaces for MSMEs by committing more resources to construct affordable, appropriate, and modern workspaces as we strive towards Vision 2030. You will all agree with me that this is the sector that is critical for driving the nation in an all-inclusive economic growth trajectory where no one and no place is left behind,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
Echoing the Minister's sentiment, Gwanda Municipality Mayor Thulani Moyo remarked on the local efforts to foster a thriving business ecosystem.
"In Gwanda, we are committed to creating a conducive environment for business growth. The inauguration of the Gwanda Vending Market is a testament to our dedication to supporting our entrepreneurs by providing them with the infrastructure they need to succeed," said Mayor Moyo.
The Gwanda Vending Market, which will accommodate 56 vendors, has been met with enthusiasm from the local business community.
Sibongile Mkhwananzi, a fresh produce seller, praised the project for its potential to enhance their businesses.
"The new market space is a game-changer for us. It not only provides us with a secure and modern trading environment but also positions us closer to our customers," expressed Mkhwananzi, reflecting the sentiment of her fellow vendors.
Economist Lloyd Mhlanga said that the development was more than just the construction of a physical space; but represented a leap forward in empowering small businesses and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship across Zimbabwe.
“By investing in the infrastructure needed to support MSMEs, the Government is laying the foundation for sustained economic growth and progress towards achieving Vision 2030,” said Mhlanga.
Meanwhile, the Gwanda Vending Market is a shining example of what can be achieved when the Government and local communities collaborate to support the entrepreneurs.
