Residents expressed doubt over elected councillors

Harare residents have expressed lack of confidence in the calibre of the elected MDC Alliance councillors arguing that most of them were elected on party lines and not on merit.

The residents noted that the majority of the councillors were re-elected into office yet they failed to deliver for the past five years they have been in office.

"It is very unfortunate that most MDC councillors who failed to prove their competence last term were given another chance. All of them were corrupt and they corruptly acquired and sold land to desperate home seekers.

"Harare City tops the list of most dirty cities in the country on service delivery due to incompetent councillors," said Mr Kudwe from Kuwadzana suburb.

The Commissions that were recently appointed to run councils have pledged to improve service delivery and address issues bedevilling the cities among them refuse collection, water and sewage upgrading, roads rehabilitation and ease of doing business.
