Prominent Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist, Godfrey Karembera, popularly known as Madzibaba veShanduko, is facing accusations of exploiting the goodwill of CCC diaspora members by constantly demanding financial handouts.
A reliable source, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed to this publication that Karembera has been soliciting funds from the diaspora under false pretences, claiming to be a victim of constant harassment by ZANU PF.
According to the source, Karembera has been portraying himself as a helpless figure unable to sustain himself and his family due to alleged persecution by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and ZANU PF members.
The source stated, "Karembera always lies that his back was injured by the police, using it as an excuse not to work. He preys on the sympathies of CCC diaspora members, convincing them that he is a target of brutality, making it impossible for him to find employment."
The source further emphasized the extent of Karembera's deceit, stating, "It's disheartening to see how he manipulates the kindness of CCC members in the diaspora. He is nothing but a conman, taking advantage of their generosity by weaving tales of persecution and hardship."
Revealing Karembera's controversial past, the source disclosed that he has a history of criminal activities in Guruve.
"Karembera has been involved in stock theft, although the case was later withdrawn by the owner, who opted for an out-of-court settlement. He is well-known locally as a pick-pocketer and has been caught stealing cell phones at musical gigs, which he later sells at Mudhindo growth point in Guruve," the source claimed.
When contacted for comment, Karembera responded angrily, dismissing the allegations.
"Write whatever you want. There is nothing wrong with CCC members giving me money. They understand the challenges of living in a rural area where monetary opportunities are scarce," he said.
As these accusations surface, questions are being raised about the credibility of activists within the CCC and whether the party is aware of the alleged actions of one of its prominent members.
Meanwhile, the unfolding scandal has the potential to impact the trust and support that the CCC diaspora members have in their own activists, posing a challenge for that party in maintaining its reputation and integrity.
