The Mashonaland Central Minister for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Mavhunga has said that the Province was ready to host the 43rd Independence Day celebrations to be held tomorrow at Mt Darwin High School.
Minister Mavhunga said that everything was now in place for the successful hosting of the celebrations.
“As a Province, we are extra ready to host the nation. We have done a tremendous job to ensure that everything would be in place on the Independence Day. I urge the nation to descend on Mt Darwin and celebrate together with President Mnangagwa,” said Minister Mavhunga.
Minister Mavhunga said that the choice of Mt Darwin to host this year’s Uhuru celebrations was a befitting one as the District was a theatre of many battles during the liberation struggle.
“The choice of Mt Darwin as the host District for this year’s Independence Day celebrations was a befitting one as the place still bears the scars of the liberation struggle. I hope the event would appease those who perished in Mt Darwin fighting for their country,” said Minister Mavhunga.
Minister Mavhunga said that the people of Mashonaland Central were peaceful and hoped that the visiting delegates would learn a lot from the people of Mt Darwin.
The Minister added that that Government has secured enough food for every delegate who would attend the celebrations. She said that over 200 buses have been dispatched across the country to ferry people to the celebrations.
Meanwhile, the main Independence Day celebrations will kick-start tomorrow morning with President Mnangagwa expected to give his key note address to the nation. After the President’s speech, there would be a soccer match between Dynamos and Highlanders Football Club. The two giants arrived in Mt Darwin yesterday to the delight of local residents.
