Chamisa faction is marshalled by baby police: Wiwa

Loyalists to Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa have been labelled by CCC interim vice-national chairperson Job ‘Wiwa’ Sikhala as baby police not fit to steer the opposition party to victory.

A source who spoke to this publication has revealed that Sikhala has since stopped advocating for Chamisa to be CCC’s 2023 presidential candidate in the upcoming Harmonised General Elections, arguing that the estranged party leader is now surrounded by baby police.

“Sikhala often makes mockery statements that he cannot continue to campaign for a presidential candidate who has surrounded himself with baby police,” said the source.

According to the source, Sikhala has maintained that he is still a CCC vice-national chairman but feels that the opposition party can stage a better fight under the leadership of the current interim secretary general Charlton Hwende given that the current opposition leader has resorted to soliciting for personal gains.

“In the past few days Sikhala’s song has been that through the leadership of Hwende, CCC can stage a fight to the wire as Chamisa and allies have now resorted to soliciting for personal gains,’ said the source.

The source further indicated that Sikhala has only availed himself for meetings with Hwende and co-vice president Tendai Biti, both from the Maruva cabal while refusing to give audience to Chamisa or interim spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere who is also Chamisa’s close ally.

In January 2023, a leaked WhatsApp message between Mahere and an unidentified CCC member made rounds on social media platforms. In the messages a concerned member pleaded with Mahere to reason with Chamisa and facilitate for the release of Sikhala from Chikurubi Maximum Prison. However Mahere responded by saying that Chamisa had instructed party members to withdraw from assisting Sikhala as Chamisa felt that Sikhala and Biti were after his leadership post.

Meanwhile, Political analysts have expressed concern over Chamisa’s silence as they have also speculated that silence is an indication that a political brew between the ever strengthening Maruva cabal and Chamisa faction is fermenting in the CCC pot.
