‘Chamisa is a hypocrite’

Political analysts have described Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa as a hypocrite who lacks political tolerance.

Political analyst, Terrence Chipwanya who spoke to this publication said that it was hypocritical for Chamisa to send congratulatory messages to the newly elected African National Congress (ANC) leadership but failing to do the same for the local MDC-T party that held its elective congress last weekend.

Yesterday, Chamisa congratulated President Ramaphosa for being elected as the ANC President and referred to the newly elected ANC secretary general, Fikile Mbalula as ‘my brother.’

However, Chipwanya said charity began at home and Chamisa was supposed to have extended the same congratulatory messages to the newly elected MDC-T executive.

“It’s hypocritical for Chamisa to first congratulate ANC but not doing the same for MDC-T that held its elective congress last weekend. If Chamisa was a mature and tolerant politician, he should have congratulated Senator Douglas Mwonzora for being elected MDC-T president. However, there was no word from Chamisa about the MDC-T congress but he quickly extended congratulatory messages to ANC. Why not do the same for MDC-T,” said Chipwanya.

Chipwanya added that there was nothing wrong for Chamisa to congratulate ANC for a successful congress but he must not exhibit double political standards. He added that it would have been good if Chamisa had also congratulated leader of the newly formed Democratic Union of Zimbabwe (DUZ) party leader, Robert Chapman for successfully launching his party last week.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the CCC leader had planned to use hired hooligans to disrupt the MDC-T elective congress. Reports also say that some MDC-T provincial chairpersons had been bribed by Chamisa to invalidate the nomination of Mwonzora as that party’s president.

However, the MDC-T congress went ahead with Mwonzora being elected that party’s leader unopposed.
