As the nation yesterday joined the rest of the world in celebrating International Mothers Day, President Emmerson Mnangagwa thanked mothers for their love and different roles they play in ensuring that families remain united.
“To all mothers across Zimbabwe and to mother of the nation, my wife, Zimbabwe’s First Lady, Happy Mothers Day.
“Thank you for all that you do to strengthen our families, our communities and our great nation,” posted the President on his official Twitter handle yesterday.
Meanwhile, the First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa in her Mothers Day message yesterday underscored the need for mothers and the community at large to prioritise the safety of children.
The First Lady emphasised that mothers have a special role in families, including caring and being responsible for moulding morally upright children.
She bemoaned the surge in teen pregnancies leading to high incidences of school drop-outs of the girl child.
Amai Mnangagwa warned people who are murdering children for ritual purposes saying such acts had no place in a peaceful Zimbabwe.
Through her Angel of Hope Foundation, the First Lady has travelled across the country mobilising resources to cushion the vulnerable such as orphans, widows and the elderly against the adverse effects of hunger.
