The MDC Alliance is divided over allegations that it’s Secretary General, Charlton Hwende who is close to MDC Alliance President, Nelson Chamisa is a spy, The Harare Post has established.

An anonymous MDC Alliance supporter who claims to be close to Chamisa who spoke to this publication revealed that, investigations conducted by the party and Government security departments have revealed that Hwende is a patriot, loyal to Chamisa and is not a spy.  

“Our sources in Government have helped us dispel accusations against Hwende as unfounded and should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve as the Secretary General is one of the most loyal and hard- working MDC Alliance sons,” said the anonymous supporter.

However, the anonymous supporter accused some MDC Alliance stalwarts opposed to Chamisa’s presidency as being the brains behind the unprecedented attacks on Hwende.

“The accusations that Hwende is a spy or sellout can only be made by people pushing the narrative that the party is heavily infiltrated when it is not.

Hwende is one of Chamisa’s pillars of strength and by trying to weaken Hwende, they are actually weakening Chamisa,” he said.

The addition of Hwende to the list of suspected spies who have allegedly infiltrated the opposition camp has now been sustained for a period of time within party circles deepening held suspicions that the party has both been infiltrated and penetrated by spies.
