The situation in hospitals is normalising as most doctors are back at their working station, the Harare Post can report.
Speaking to this publication on condition of anonymity, one Parirenyatwa doctor highlighted that reports on social media of pathetic situation at the country’s General Hospitals are false.
“The situation at the hospitals is normalising and it is not as bad as what is being said on social media. We are back at work and the numbers are growing daily with most doctors coming back to work. The situation is not as bad as it used to be.
“Negotiations with Government are on-going and we hope these interactions continue. We have decided to save lives because people’s lives matter. I believe things will be back to normal in hospitals very soon,” he said.
One nurse at Harare hospital highlighted that doctors have returned to work and patients are getting help.
“Doctors have returned to work and patients with serious ailments are getting immediate help. We are no longer losing patients. I am grateful to Government for its intervention as it never stopped helping wherever possible,” she said.
Doctors have been on strike since December last year citing a review of their salaries and an improvement of their working conditions. Negotiations with Government have been ongoing since then, with some doctors refusing Government’s offer. However, some doctors never stopped going to work.
A tour of Parirenyatwa Hospital by the Harare Post crew, revealed that the situation at that public hospital is progressively normalising. Most doctors were attending to patients and people were receiving treatment without any challenges.
