The wedge between the G40 cabal kingpins, former Cabinet Ministers, Professor Jonathan Moyo and Saviour Kasukuwere seems to be widening with the two differing on the events leading to their escape from the country during the Operation Restore Legacy (ORL) of 2017.
Responding to an article by ZimLive founder and journalist, Mduduzi Mathuthu titled, “A tortuous 19-hour journey to safety: how Moyo and Kasukuwere fled Zimbabwe,” Kasukuwere posted on his micro blogging page, dismissing the narrative and accusing Mathuthu of twisting facts.
“Mduduzi, stop this unacceptable fiction. Don’t twist facts and if you want the story ask! A tortuous 19-hour journey to safety: how Moyo and Kasukuwere fled Zimbabwe,” he posted.
Kasukuwere’s angry reaction is despite the fact that Mathuthu quoted Prof Moyo in the article, a clear indication of a widening rift between the two.
The open confrontation between the two kingpins follows earlier reports by this publication to the effect that Prof Moyo’s #TysonWabantu media campaign had hit a brick wall with citizens rejecting Kasukuwere as potential Presidential candidate citing too many skeletons in his closet.
As if in open admission to the claims, Kasukuwere posted on Twitter, “Damascene moments are rare and true. Leadership is acknowledging mistakes of the past and perfecting our way going forward. In the Bible Saul became Paul and changed the face of the New Testament. As we press forward we remember yesterday’s missteps.”
Prof Moyo and Kasukuwere are in self-exile after fleeing the country following ORL in which they are required to face charges ranging from corruption and abuse of office during their times as Cabinet Ministers.
The #TysonWabantu project is believed to be a political attempt by the kingpins to remain politically relevant as they see their only chance of returning to the country is under a new leadership.
