Zanu PF Magunje constituency has today donated an assortment of goods towards Cyclone Idai victims as more corporates and individuals continue to donate to the affected communities.
The goods, which include maize meal, cooking utensils and clothes, mobilised by Magunje constituency House of Assembly member, Cecil Kashiri, were handed over to Hurungwe District Administrator`s office.
Honourable Kashiri applauded the spirit of love and togetherness exhibited by villagers from his constituency considering that they gave their little maize despite the drought situation they are faced with.
“I want to thank people of Magunje for the love and empathy they have shown to their brothers and sisters in Chimanimani, Chipinge and other affected areas. Most of them have never been to these areas, but they feel those affected are part of them and they need to assist them in one way or the other.
“The people here are equally affected by the drought and their yields were very low but out of love, they have donated. We have managed to mobilise 2 416kg of maize and 118 by 50kg of used clothes and various cooking utensils among other items,” he said.
The Government also continues with its efforts to bring normalcy to the affected areas through rehabilitating roads, schools and other destroyed infrastructure.
While addressing thousands of villagers at Ngaonde High School yesterday after meeting chiefs in Chipinge, President Mnangagwa said Government was going to relocate families from disaster prone areas to safe locations with the help of the traditional leaders.
He said strong modern houses will be constructed by Government in partnership with private entities that pledged to support.
The country received and continues to receive a lot of aid from local, regional and international friends who felt the plight of the people of Chimanimani, Chipinge and other affected areas.
