MDC-T Spokesperson, Linda Tsungirirai Masarira has sensationally claimed that the MDC- Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa is captured by the mysterious prominent figure who was recently referred to by political activist, Acie Lumumba as Queen B.
Masarira wrote on her Twitter handle that “people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. My brother I hate your hypocrisy yet you are one of the biggest money launderers, received thousands of coupons during campaign period from Queen B and some were changed at the Central Bank for cash. Ita nyo ndichivhiye.”
This followed a Twitter post by MDC-T Deputy Treasurer General, Chalton Hwende in which he claimed that some fuel traders were defrauding the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe through false declarations on fuel imports.
Masarira went further, exposing that “they got $1.8 million political finance funds, spent it on luxurious cars, 20 % went into Nelson Chamisa Trust, then started begging for funds and woke up one morning with billboards all over and elite stages after one of their makeshift ones collapsed.”
If the claims by Masarira are anything to go by, then it exposes the Chamisa faction as deeply entrenched in corruption. How would funds donated for campaigns end up in the Chamisa Trust fund?
The exposure also makes it imperative that the Chamisa faction provides further answers on its links with the mysterious Queen B, given the serious allegations of RBZ capture by the same Queen B. The MDC-T should make a full disclosure on its financial donors and how the funds were spent.
This is against the background of appeals for funds by the faction to foot its legal bill for the unsuccessful Constitutional Court challenge against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s presidential election victory.
Allegations that the fuel coupons donated by Queen B to the MDC-T were later exchanged for cash at the Reserve Bank also needs further investigation. This is against the allegations by Lumumba that some officials at the Central Bank were heavily involved in fuelling the illegal foreign currency parallel market which has been identified as one of the main drivers of the current economic challenges.
This would help expose the MDC-Alliance’s complicity in fuelling parallel market activities, which they make a lot of noise about, blaming ZANU PF as the architecture of the economic difficulties.
There is need for the MDC Alliance to come clean on these allegations, given its claims of being a transparent and democratic party.
