Cash crunch hits CCC ahead of by-elections

During a meeting with CCC members in Bulawayo, the recalled Lobengula-Magwegwe legislator, Eric Gono disclosed that party's precarious economic position.

"We are in a tight spot financially, and this is not a secret. The party's coffers are in a dire state, which casts a shadow on our capacity to mount a successful campaign for the by-elections," the source quoted Gono as saying.

The source added that in the same meeting, Gono made a heartfelt plea to the legislators and councillors who were present during the meeting, to dig into their pockets and contribute funds for that party's campaign efforts.

According to the source, Gono stressed the urgent need for financial resources to acquire party regalia, secure transportation, and other essential campaign paraphernalia.

He added that the financial drought has led CCC to consider establishing a Resource Mobilisation Committee, which is proposed to be led by Bulawayo's Ward 9 Councillor, Gift Sibanda along with Donald Mabutho and Bulawayo Proportional Representative member, Jasmine Tofa.

This committee is envisioned to spearhead fundraising efforts and alleviate the party's fiscal woes.

The source further lamented, "Given the current financial constraints, our candidates are at a significant disadvantage compared to those from ZANU PF, which could lead to an underwhelming performance in the forthcoming by-elections."

The source added that, to compound the issue, there was growing hesitation among CCC supporters to contribute financially to that party's cause amid circulating reports of mismanaged funds.

This scepticism has only added to that party's economic woes, creating a concerning outlook for their campaign aspirations.

As the by-elections draw near, the CCC faces the challenging task of rallying its financial resources and restoring trust among its supporters. Without a swift and effective solution to this crisis, CCC's ability to compete effectively against financially robust opponents remains uncertain.
