Masvingo's Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira, has reassured residents of Masvingo Province that no one would die of hunger despite the ongoing El Niño-induced drought.
Speaking at the a ZANU PF victory ceremony at Runyararo Primary School recently, Minister Chadzamira praised the local community for their unwavering support for the ruling party and assured them of the much-needed assistance in relief food.
The Minister promised that a truckload of maize would soon be delivered to alleviate the food crisis caused by the severe drought.
"I promise the residents that no one will die of hunger. Soon, we will bring a truckload of food for distribution," the Minister said.
Minister Chadzamira also took the opportunity to thank the residents for their strong support towards Zanu PF during last year's elections.
He emphasised the importance of development, peace, and unity, stressing that the ruling Party was committed to improving the lives of its people.
“I would like to thank you all. You voted for development, peace, and unity. We are so proud of the local and national leadership who are spearheading development, as witnessed by the rehabilitation of roads that had been abandoned for a long time,” said Minister Chadzamira.
Minister Chadzamira also pointed out successful projects being done under the Second Republic.
“We are witnessing the rehabilitation of roads that had been abandoned for a long time,” Minister Chadzamira said.
Masvingo's Ward 2 Councillor Benson Hwata echoed the Minister’s sentiments, highlighting the significant improvements under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership.
Councillor Hwata pointed to devolution funds, which had been instrumental in developing both urban and rural roads, the Emergency Roads Rehabilitation Programme, and the construction of essential infrastructure like schools, clinics, solar-powered boreholes, and irrigation schemes.
"Our President, Cde E.D. Mnangagwa, who is leading the Second Republic, is doing a lot through devolution funds, which are helping in urban and rural roads construction as well as the Emergency Roads Rehabilitation Programme initiative. Schools, clinics, solar-powered boreholes, and the revival of irrigation schemes are everywhere for all to see, thanks to his hard and wise leadership," said Councillor Hwata.
The councillor also urged the community to remain loyal to the Zanu-PF Party, praising its practical work and tangible results.
He warned against opposition parties, accusing them of lacking a clear direction and being engaged in internal power struggles.
“I urge you to stick by your revolutionary Party, which has practical work that is tangible and delivers on its promises. Don’t be fooled by these fly-by-night political parties, which have the names of individuals and are always fighting for leadership every day. They have no direction, so be careful and don’t be led astray,” said Councillor Hwata.
Meanwhile, Government has committed to availing food assistance to families that are facing starvation, and to date a number of families have benefitted from various government drought relief schemes.
