The newly appointed Zimbabwe Youth Council (ZYC) board member, Anotidaishe Talent Kadaira, has unveiled an ambitious vision to transform the organisation into a vibrant platform for youth empowerment and development.
Speaking to this publication yesterday, Kadaira emphasised the critical role of youth in shaping Zimbabwe's future and outlined strategic plans to address challenges faced by young people nationwide.
“Your energy, creativity, and passion are our greatest assets. Embrace your potential by taking the initiative in community projects, engaging in civic matters, and advocating for your rights. Remember, your voice matters—make it heard,” Kadaira said in a message directed to the youth.
Kadaira’s vision for the ZYC is rooted in collaboration. He appealed to Government agencies to work closely with the youth, stressing the importance of policies that promote education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
“Collaboration with youth is vital. It’s essential to involve young people in decision-making processes to address their needs effectively,” he said.
Highlighting the successful Youth Desk initiative under the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, Kadaira urged other ministries to replicate this model.
He also called on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to support youth-led initiatives and skill development programs, noting their critical role in bridging gaps where resources are limited.
Similarly, he urged the private sector to invest in young people through internships, mentorships, and job opportunities, underscoring the long-term economic benefits of empowering the next generation.
In a push for unity, Kadaira appealed to Members of Parliament (MPs), Senators, and Councillors to prioritise development initiatives regardless of their origin.
“Unity in progress is essential. Do not sabotage those who come to help the people; they are working for the constituencies that elected you,” he said, cautioning against political divisions that hinder national growth.
Addressing challenges in public health, Kadaira laid out a comprehensive strategy to combat HIV, STIs, and related diseases among young people.
His plan includes introducing age-appropriate sexual health education in schools and community centres, expanding access to youth-friendly healthcare services, and establishing peer education networks to foster open discussions and support.
“We will work to increase the availability of youth-friendly healthcare services, ensuring that young people have easy access to testing, treatment, and counselling,” Kadaira stated.
This initiative will include mobile clinics and outreach programs targeting marginalised areas.
Furthermore, he underscored the importance of partnerships with NGOs to leverage resources and expertise, advocating for policies that prioritise youth health and rights.
A robust monitoring and evaluation system will be implemented to assess the effectiveness of these programs and adapt them as needed.
Kadaira also encouraged the youth to engage actively with government systems rather than relying solely on individuals.
“Individuals come and go. Governments and party systems remain. Engage with these structures to ensure lasting progress,” he noted.
With a focus on unity, strategic partnerships, and youth empowerment, the ZYC aims to become a dynamic force driving positive change for Zimbabwe’s young people.
