President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced a notable projection of 600,000 tonnes for the 2024 winter wheat harvest, citing unity of purpose and effective policy frameworks, as key factors in achieving this milestone.

Speaking during the State of the Nation Address, at the New Parliament, in Mt Hampden, President Mnangagwa expressed confidence in the upcoming 2024–2025 Summer Cropping Season, noting expectations for normal to above normal rainfall across most provinces. He highlighted the ongoing success of the Pfumvudza/Intwasa Presidential Climate-Proofed Agriculture Production Scheme, emphasizing the efficient distribution of agricultural inputs to farmers.

“This record harvest is a testament to our commitment to food security and agricultural productivity,” said President Mnangagwa.

The Government’s focus on sustainable agricultural practices aims to bolster the nation’s resilience against climate challenges and enhance crop yields in the coming months. Farmers and agricultural experts are encouraged by the Government's proactive measures, hoping that favorable weather conditions will contribute to another successful season.

Local farmer, Tendai Moyo, expressed optimism, stating, “With the Government's support and the right weather, we can achieve great yields this summer. The inputs from the Pfumvudza scheme have made a significant difference.”

Another farmer, Chipo Ndlovu added, “We are ready to embrace these conditions. If the rains come as expected, we’ll be able to produce even more than last year. Our focus now is on implementing best practices to maximize our harvest.”

Agricultural expert, Dr. Nyasha Chirwa emphasized the importance of community support, stating, “Collaboration among farmers is crucial. Sharing knowledge on sustainable practices can help us all thrive, especially during challenging weather conditions.”
