ZANU PF has launched a women’s empowerment initiative by distributing 5 000 road runner chicks to women across Mashonaland Central Province, in a move to empower communities and promote self-sustainability.
The initiative, led by Secretary of the Women's League and Senate President, Cde Mabel Chinomona aims to boost livelihoods and foster economic independence among women in the region.
The distribution event, held yesterday at Bindura Country Club, saw women from all 18 constituencies of Mashonaland Central Province receiving the chicks, with the encouragement to pass on the benefits to other women in their communities.
Cde Chinomona, who personally brought the 5 000 chicks, emphasised the importance of community support and collective progress.
“This initiative is not just about giving out chicks; it’s about creating a ripple effect of empowerment. I urge all the women here to nurture these birds and pass on the offspring to other beneficiaries, so that the impact of this project spreads far and wide,” said Cde Chinomona during the handover ceremony.
She underscored the project’s alignment with the Government's Vision 2030 agenda, which aims to achieve an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
Speaking at the same event, Mashonaland Central Provinces’s Minister of State and Devolution Affairs, Christopher Magomo expressed gratitude to Cde Chinomona for her efforts in supporting women in the province.
“Mai Chinomona has shown great commitment to the empowerment of women in Mashonaland Central. This gesture is not just about poultry; it’s a statement that Zanu PF is serious about empowering its people and walking the Vision 2030 talk,” he said.
Minister Magomo also extended his appreciation to President Emmerson Mnangagwa for the ongoing cattle project, another Zanu PF-led initiative, aimed at empowering the youth in the province.
“Thanks to President Mnangagwa, our province has received 70 cattle that will be distributed among the youths. These projects are transformative and are directly improving the livelihoods of our people,” he added.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament and ZANU PF Mashonaland Central Women’s League Provincial Chairlady, Cde Tsitsi Gezi highlighted the importance of such initiatives in uplifting women and communities.
“The Women’s Road Runner Project is a practical example of how we can empower our women and drive economic growth from the grassroots level. It’s about giving women the tools they need to thrive,” Cde Gezi stated.
The women’s Road Runner Project is part of a broader Zanu PF strategy to empower marginalised groups, particularly women and youth, through agricultural and livestock projects.
Zanu PF's focus on community empowerment through sustainable projects highlights the Party’s ongoing efforts to support grassroots development and promote economic resilience in line with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 goals.
