Office of the President and Cabinet has on behalf of the President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is currently on leave, the First family and the Acting President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, sent a condolence message to the Chikowore family on the passing on of Sekuru Chikowore.
“I wish to express my deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Chikowore family on the passing on of Sekuru Herbet Chikowore, father of the Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Comrade Regis Chikowore,” read the message
Commenting on Sekuru Chikowore’s contribution to the liberation of our country from the yoke of colonialism, Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda said, “He carved his political path alongside prominent nationalist who included his sibling and national hero, the late Comrade Enos Chikowore whom he assisted to join the Liberation struggle in Zambia during the nascent days of nationalist politics.
Sekuru Chikowore took up a career in farming after having completed his studies as a Land Demonstrator with the famous Domboshava Agricultural Institute, where he demonstrated his capability to a lot of people.
“He imparted farming skills to thousands of his compatriots, until retirement in 1984. The dividend from that training including on the farm which he purchased in 1996, continues to manifest to this day as Zimbabwe enjoys household and national food security inline with Vision 2030,” read the statement.
Meanwhile, Sekuru Chikowore has been accorded a state assisted funeral. He leaves behind a wife Gogo Dorothy Chikowore, his children and grandchildren.
