The case of machete killings by suspected ‘MaShurugwi’s’ in Manicaland has caused widespread shock and concern around the country with many netizens calling on Government and the responsible authorities to rein in on these merciless outlaws.

Two Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers were brutally attacked leaving one dead and one battling for his life in hospital with another civilian, believed to be a gold buyer, being at the receiving end of a brutal attack that claimed his life and valuables.

Expressing concern, netizens have flooded social media calling on Government and responsible authorities to clamp down on these outlaws as they are fast becoming a National Security threat.

MDC Vice President, Obert Gutu posting on his micro blogging site said, “MaShurugwi menace is some kind of low-key terrorism. Government of Zimbabwe should ruthlessly clamp down on this sordid lawlessness. This is not acceptable in a modern nation state in the 21st century. Zimbabwe is not another version of Afghanistan or Somalia.”

Online news website, NewsDzeZimbabwe condemned the MaShurugwi’s claiming that they are enemies of progress in Zimbabwe.

Posting on its Facebook page, it said, “MaShurugwi are simply out of control. It's a national disaster. These scum bags are not fit to be called humans, have not respect for human life whatsoever.

“Imagine police were armed with guns but these thugs advanced anyway and continue to brutally murder a police officer and seriously injure them. They should simply be declared enemies of Zimbabwe and be dealt with ruthlessly.”

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reiterated calls for the public to respect the law and human life and has pledged that it is committed fully in ensuring that perpetrators who break the law shall be arrested and convicted.
