Zanu PF Politburo applauded Government for introducing Statutory Instrument 142 of 2019 which effectively replaced the multi-currency system with mono-currency system in Zimbabwe.

Addressing the media after the 330th Politburo Meeting, Zanu PF Spokesperson, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said President Emmerson Mnangagwa urged all party leadership to take the task upon themselves to enlighten the general populace about the new development.

The Politburo noted with concern the effects the multi-currency system had brought to the economy as prices of basic commodities were increased on a daily basis in chase of the US dollar.

“President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged party leadership to teach members and the nation at large of the new currency reforms put in place.  He urged the members not to be corruptible in carrying out their day to day party duties,” Ambassador Moyo said.

The scrapping of the multi-currency system has seen the black market exchange rates tumbling .A random survey carried out by this publication in the down town area revealed that there is a remarkable downward review of prices of basic commodities especially at the tuckshops.

President Mnangagwa recently told the nation that for the country to prosper, there was need to move away from the multi-currency system local currency.

Meanwhile, the President emphasized the need for continued engagement and re-engagement with the world.

To that respect, he applauded the successful hosting of the AU-UN Summit on Wildlife in Victoria Falls which was attended by Presidents of Botswana, Namibia and Zambia.

The President said it was a positive development in marketing our country to the region and international community.
