Government, through the Ministry of Health and Child Care, is advancing infrastructure development to elevate healthcare services across Zimbabwe.

Speaking at a recent press conference, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Dr Aspect Maunganidze, emphasised the Ministry's multifaceted approach to enhancing service delivery.

“The Ministry has completed some hospitals, including Matanga, Runyararo, and Cowdry Park and they are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. These hospitals stand as testament to our unwavering dedication to providing modern healthcare facilities to our citizens," remarked Dr. Maunganidze.

The Ministry also tackled the challenge of poor water reticulation in different clinics across the country by installing boreholes.

“Government has bolstered water reticulation systems in various clinics, installing a total of 447 boreholes across the country to ensure adequate water supply. We intend to continue rolling out this programme by earmarking 200 more boreholes so that we cover most of our health posts,” added Dr Maunganidze.

In a bid to address energy sustainability, the Ministry has enhanced energy access in healthcare facilities.

“The Ministry has deployed 16 solar systems in the Midlands and Masvingo provinces, as this is important in ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services across the country,” the Permanent Secretary said.

Furthermore, medical gas reticulation systems have been implemented in four hospitals, including Chivhu and Banket Hospital, with plans underway to establish full oxygen plants in Chinhoyi and Lupane.

"These efforts are pivotal in strengthening our healthcare infrastructure and improving patient care," affirmed Dr. Maunganidze.

Meanwhile, Dr. Maunganidze highlighted progress in pharmaceutical infrastructure, which has seen the construction of 69 Pharmacy Stores and Warehouses through NatFarm, with 39 completed in 2023.

In tandem with infrastructure development, the Ministry remains vigilant in addressing public health challenges, particularly the prevention of cholera outbreaks.

Several iniatives are being rolled out to ensure proper waste disposal with Gokwe and Chivi Districts being pilot projects.
