Following a devastating hailstorm that wreaked havoc in Masvingo North Constituency, damaging Wenedzo Primary School and leaving a trail of destruction that has affected several households, Government has quickly intervened through rapid mobilisation of resources to aid the victims.

The natural disaster, which occurred last week, led to significant damage, including the destruction of four classroom blocks, an office, and a teacher's residence, as well as the uprooting of trees. Fortunately, there were no fatalities.

In a statement released on X, Masvingo North Legislator, Brian Mudhumi conveyed the Government's resolve to provide immediate assistance.

"Government, along with generous donors, is actively gathering resources to support both the school and the affected families. Our response is immediate, reflecting our commitment to the community's welfare," Mudhumi stated.

Mudhumi further announced that an assessment team would be dispatched to evaluate the extent of the damage and determine the necessary resources for recovery.

The Wenedzo Primary School Development Committee (SDC) Chairman detailed the traumatic experience and reiterated the urgent need for restoration.

"A fierce wind struck from the west last Thursday, causing extensive damage in a matter of minutes. To repair the school, we urgently require roofing material, trusses, nails, and a significant number of textbooks, since many were destroyed by the storm," the SDC Chairman explained.

Analyst, Sydney Manyukwe, said that Government's prompt pledge to assist signals a robust effort to restore not only the structural damages but also the educational resources lost in the disaster.

“This action demonstrates a profound dedication to ensuring the continuity of education and safeguarding the future of the affected children,” said Manyukwe.

Meanwhile, the combined efforts of the Government and well-wishers are crucial in addressing the immediate needs of the affected on top of facilitating the long-term rehabilitation of the area. The initiative not only aids in the physical rebuilding process but also instills hope among the victims, emphasising the importance of unity and support in times of crisis.
