Nepotism rocks CCC

…as Chibaya is accused of pushing a relative for Gweru Town clerk position

Internal sources have revealed that Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Movement Mobiliser, Amos Chibaya, is exerting undue influence to secure the appointment of his relative, Stanslous Mazango, as the Town Clerk for the City of Gweru.

Mazango, whose qualifications reportedly falls short of the requirements for the position, has become the centre of a heated debate that highlights the complexities of political appointments.

The source, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, claims that Chibaya is pressuring Gweru Mayor Martin Chivhoko to ensure Mazango's appointment.

This has raised concerns about the integrity of the appointment process and the qualifications necessary for such a significant administrative role.

According to the source, Chibaya is pushing for a full council meeting with a primary agenda to endorse Mazango's appointment.

"The move is clear: Chibaya wants Mazango in, qualifications or not. He is bending the Mayor's arm to make it happen," the source stated.

Chibaya, while pushing for Mazango's appointment, is also reportedly dissatisfied with Mayor Chivhoko, accusing him of being a ZANU PF sympathizer and questioning his allegiance to the CCC.

"Chibaya's distrust of Chivhoko is palpable. He has accused him of not being a true CCC member, a claim that's adding tension within the party," added the source.

In a move that raises eyebrows about the transparency of the appointment process, the source alleges that Chibaya advised Chivhoko to show Mazango the advertisement for the Town Clerk position before its official publication.

"The idea was to give Mazango a heads-up, making the subsequent interview merely a formality," the source explained.

The source added that Chibaya recently criticized Chivhoko for inviting Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Owen Ncube, to commission fire tenders in Gweru.

This incident, according to the source, has left Chivhoko feeling isolated within the CCC, as his efforts to engage other CCC legislators in the event were met with a cold shoulder.

Political commentator Edith Mushore said that this development sparks a broader conversation about political influence and nepotism in public appointments, raising questions about the transparency and fairness of the process.

“The allegations against Chibaya and the ensuing turmoil within the CCC Movement underscore the challenges facing political parties in managing internal dynamics and maintaining public trust. As the story unfolds, it will be crucial to see how the CCC addresses these concerns and whether Mazango's appointment will proceed amidst the controversy,” said Mushore.

Meanwhile, attempts to reach Mayor Chivhoko and CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi for comments were unsuccessful, as their mobile phones were not reachable.
