As Zimbabwe prepares for the 09 December 2023 by-elections, the political atmosphere is intensifying, with parties rallying their supporters and calling for wise voting choices.
The ZANU PF National Chairperson, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, addressed a massive rally in Bulawayo South constituency at Sizinda yesterday, emphasising the need for the electorate to back the ruling Party, which she credited for driving the nation's development since 1980.
In her speech, Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri highlighted the long-standing presence and influence of ZANU PF in Zimbabwe's political landscape.
"ZANU PF has been a pivotal force since 1980. Our commitment to the nation's progress is unwavering, and we urge you to support our candidate, Cde Raj Modi," she stated.
The National Chairperson also touched upon the Government's ongoing battle against drug and substance abuse, a pressing issue in contemporary Zimbabwean society.
Cde Muchinguri said that the country will remain resolute despite the detractors’ efforts to cause regime change in Zimbabwe.
"We are battling against the forces that undermine our prosperity. The external threats and the remnants of colonialism continue to challenge us, but we remain steadfast," Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri remarked.
In the context of these upcoming by-elections, political analyst, Edith Mushore provided her insights, suggesting a favourable outlook for ZANU PF.
"The organisational strength and unity within ZANU PF contrast sharply with the rampant factionalism in the CCC. This internal stability is likely to give ZANU PF a significant advantage in the by-elections," Mushore commented.
Mushore further noted the impact of ZANU PF's development projects on the electorate's decision-making.
"The tangible developmental achievements under the ZANU PF Government are likely to resonate with voters, propelling the Party towards victory in the upcoming elections," Mushore added.
The December 9 by-elections were necessitated by a series of recalls initiated by the Citizens Coalition for Change Interim Secretary General, Sengezo Tshabangu, and are set against a backdrop of heightened political rivalry within that party.
As parties ramp up their campaigns, the call for wise and informed voting is more relevant than ever, underscoring the critical role of the electorate in shaping Zimbabwe's future.
